Major Property Updates - Riverview Lands

The Future of the Lands

Cottonwood Lodge.
Cottonwood Lodge is the second of three
Fraser Health mental health care facilities.

BC Housing will lead the planning process for the redevelopment of the lands, with support from ARES and other relevant ministries and agencies. Thoughtful planning will ensure that all identified and emerging government requirements - such as mental health, social housing and associated services - are carefully considered, including aspects such as integration and delivery.

Local government and all other stakeholders will be informed when the consultation process and timeline is established.

Mental Health Facilities
ARES continues to support regional health authorities - primarily Fraser Health - to facilitate the delivery of services on the Riverview lands. As with all planning initiatives, ARES is committed to working closely with the stewardship committee, the City and the community to ensure health care needs are met with as little environmental impact as possible.

Riverview Hospital
Riverview Hospital, through The Riverview Redevelopment Project, is in the process of transferring its patients and associated resources to the regional health authorities on a bed-for-bed replacement basis, with the "institution" currently known as Riverview Hospital eventually closing.

Community Heritage Register

In early 2008, the City of Coquitlam recognized the Riverview lands' heritage value by including it in its Community Heritage Register and by adopting a statement of significance. This inclusion automatically places the lands on the Provincial Heritage Register, although it does not formally designate them as heritage.
