Major Property Updates - Riverview Lands

Riverview - Footprint Educational Project

In late 2006, ARES initiated an educational project to better understand the term "use of footprint" as it relates to the Riverview lands. As new mental health facilities have been built, it has been necessary to use some green spaces to meet associated patient programming requirements. This project helped develop strategies and measures required to mitigate the impact on non-footprint areas due to the new construction.

Eight workshops were held from November 2006 to May 2007, with participation by stewardship group members, the City of Coquitlam Planning and Development Department and technical experts. Principles were developed to help guide the overall discussion and learning. This project is not a formal policy and serves only to provide understanding and clarity.

Community Heritage Register

In early 2008, the City of Coquitlam recognized the Riverview lands' heritage value by including it in its Community Heritage Register and by adopting a statement of significance. This inclusion automatically places the lands on the Provincial Heritage Register, although it does not formally designate them as heritage.
